Sukuna is the central figure in the story of Jujutsu-kaisen, and is usually found inside a vessel which is Yuji Itadori.
Basically, he is a self‐righteousness type of person, who has no interest in anyone, but he has a special feeling for Megumi Fushiguro.

[Jujutsu Kaisen] Sukuna and Megumi Fushiguro’s relationship! Why Sukuna help & What is ‘landmine’?
First of all, let’s look back at the scene where Ryomen-sukuna and Megumi Fushiguro first met each other, and how Sukuna began to regard Megumi as special.
In the first chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen, Sukuna was emerged as a helpless God of Destruction, but as the story progresses, we come to know that he is not a being who indiscriminately destroys everything and anything.
In particular, he cares about Megumi Fushiguro at various points in the story.
The Battle of Sukuna and Megumi Fushiguro
In chapter 8 of volume 2 of the manga (the 5th episode of the anime), during the battle with the special grade curse in the reformatory, Yuji Itadori was replaced by Ryomen-Sukuna.
However, this time the change was without any binding vows, so even after Sukuna had instantly killed the special grade curse, he still ruled his body for a while.
Then the battle between Megumi Fushiguro, and Sukuna began, but there was nothing Megumi could do in front of the overwhelming strength of Sukuna.
Though he was driving Megumi Fushiguro to the edge, he didn’t kill him instantly, but rather started to be interested in his technique “Shadow rule of ten spiecies“.
In chapter 9 of volume 2 of the manga (5th episode of the anime), when he learns that Megumi Fushiguro’s technique uses shadows as a medium, he asks Megumi
I don’t understand.
Why did you run away that time?
Megumi Fushiguro, when he came across the special grade curse that appeared in the reformatory, had judged that it was beyond his control.
But the question from Sukuna was as if to say, “If only I had Fushiguro’s power, I could have defeated him”.
This question of Sukuna’s was remembered by Megumi Fushiguro until later, and became the inspiration for the application of his own technique.
Megumi Fushiguro’s abandonment technique in the battle of Sukuna
In chapter 9 of volume 2 of the manga (5th episode of the anime), Megumi Fushiguro, who was cornered by Sukuna, started to chant ‘Furube Yura Yura’.
Seeing Fushiguro Megumi’s magic power at this time, Sukuna was depicted that became more and more interested in him.
From this, it seems that the ‘Shadow rule of ten spiecies‘ that Megumi Fushiguro deals with, and the contents of this chanting, have an important meaning for Sukuna.
Megumi Fushiguro’s technique and chanting will be described later, but it is based on the words and spirits appearing in the historical Japanese book.
The only curiosity that makes Sukuna give Megumi Fushiguro a glance
Ever since the first battle between Sukuna and Megumi Fushiguro, we have seen Sukuna’s words and actions, as if he has been giving Megumi a glance.
In chapter 11 ofvolume 2 of the manga (6th episode of the anime), when Yuji Itadori was on the verge of death, in the conversation, Sukuna said of Megumi, “You’ll see something interesting soon”.
Also, in chapter 30 of volume 4 of the manga (anime episode 13), there was a scene where Mahito, through his domein expansion “Self embodiment of perfection“, unintentionally touched the soul of Sukuna, and he lost his temper.
Again, it is mentioned that “there is only one person in whom Sukina is interested”, i.e. Megumi.
And in the manga volume 7, chapter 59, there was a compliment from Sukuna to Megumi Fushiguro for his single-handedly defeating the Special grade curse, saying “Nice. That’s better”.
Megumi Fushiguro had shown his true colors in this battle, and with the activation of his domain expansion ‘Garden of chimeric shadows‘, he had become much stronger than when he first fought with Sukuna.
It’s quite a rare scene that Sukuna, who usually uses words like ‘boring’, praises human beings.
Megumi Fushiguro becomes a landmine for Sukuna?
In the manga volume 7, chapter 53, Fushiguro is also mentioned in the conversation between Geto(Kenjaku) and Hanami.
In fact, Geto and his allies don’t know that Sukuna has a special regard for Fushiguro, but they have noticed that among the students of the magic technical college, there is a landmine for Sukuna.
If the Geto side finds out that Sukuna cares about Megumi Fushiguro, they may abduct Megumi in order to bring Sukuna into their fold, or something like that.
[Jujutsu Kaisen] Why does Sukuna helps Megumi Fushiguro?
So far we have been looking back from the first battle between Sukuna and Megumi Fushiguro, to how Sukuna came to have a special interest in Megumi.
As we have introduced, there are many times in the story of Jujutsu Kaisen battle that we have depicted that Sukuna is interested in Megumi Fushiguro.
Sukuna wants to be resurrected by Megumi’s technique “Shadow rule of ten spiecies”?
Megumi Fushiguro deals with a technique called “Shadow rule of ten spiecies“.
As mentioned above, the original source of this technique is the words and spirits that appear in the historical Japanese book.
There is “Tokusa no Kandakara”(Ten sacred treasures) in this book, so this is the original of “Shadow rule of ten spiecies”.
Also in this book, there is a word spirit called “Furu”, which is said to be a word spirit of resurrection from the dead.
The words are chanted as follows
Furube Yura Yura to Furube
Fushiguro also chanted “Furube Yura Yura” when summoning “Eight handled sword divergent sila divine general mahoraga“, so there may be other chants with the meaning of “raising the dead” besides summoning Mahoraga.
I think that Sukuna is trying to resurrect in this world, and I guess that his aim is to resurrect the former body of Sukuna, not the one possessing the ‘vessel’, Yuji Itadori.
Perhaps Megumi’s technique is convenient for that purpose.
Or maybe he doesn’t think about resurrection at all, and is just interested in the potential of Megumi Fushiguro’s technique.
The original of Shadow rule of ten spiecies, “Tokusa no Kandara”.
The following is a more detailed explanation of the “Tokusa no Kandakara” (Ten Sacred Treasures).
“Tokusa no kandakara” are the ten treasures that appear in the historical Japanese book.
The ten treasures are as follows
- Okitsu Kagami, mirror
- Hetsu no kagami, mirror
- Yatsuka no Tsurugi, sword
- Ikutama, a live ball
- Makarukaheshi no tama, a resurrection ball
- Taru tama, a ball
- Chikaeshi no tama, a ball
- Orochi no hire, snake fin
- Hachi no hire, bee wings
- Kusagusa no mono no hire, a cloth
In fact, each of these ten treasures corresponds to a different shikigami of technique “Shadow rule of ten species”.
And although not all of them appear in the story, it is possible that all ten will appear as the story progresses.
One of the most interesting treasures is the “Makarukaheshi-no-tama”.
It is said to be a ball that can bring back the dead, and I personally think that the reason why Sukuna is so interested in Megumi may be for the purpose of reviving him with it.
Incidentally, in the word of “Furu”, I introduced earlier, ‘1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10’ refers to the Ten Divine Treasures.

The fact that Sukuna is interested in Megumi is one of the major foreshadowings in the story of the Jujutsu-kaisen.
It seems that Megumi’s technique has not yet been fully revealed, and the true purpose and thoughts of Sukuna will be revealed in the future.
