The panda first appears in volume 0 of the Jujutsu Kaisen timeline, and is a first-year student at magic technical school in volume 0, and a second-year student in the main story.
In the manga, no one explains about Panda in detail, but Panda himself explains about his identity in a reminiscing scene.
Panda’s true identity is “Mutant cursed corpse”.
The true identity of Panda was revealed in episode 38 of volume 5 of the manga, during the Mechamaru battle at the exchange meeting between the Tokyo and Kyoto schools.
The panda is called a “Mutant cursed corpse“, which is of course different from the animal panda.
A “mutant” is an inanimate object with a curse inside that enables it to act autonomously, usually in the form of a stuffed toy or doll.
