Junpei Yoshino is a third year student at Satozakura high school. When he was a freshman, he started a film club, but the club room was taken over by a group of delinquents.

He was the only member of the club who disobeys the delinquents and was bullied, and eventually he stopped going to school.

 

By the way, when it comes to bullying at school, the people around him didn’t care about it, and his homeroom teacher didn’t see the reality at all and mistakenly thought that the delinquent group was giving attention to Junpei Yoshino.

The reason why Junpei later approached Mahito was because of his distrust of people and his desire to take revenge on the bullies.

Junpei Yoshino lived with his mother, Nagi Yoshino, and his father was missed.

Nagi raised Jumpei by herself, and accepted him without blaming him for not attending school.

With no friends at school and no teachers to trust, the only person Junpei could talk to was Nagi Yoshino, who understood him.

One day, when he went to the movies, he found three of his tormentors sitting in the seats in front of him (manga volume 3, chapter 19).

They were talking loudly and ringing their mobile phones during the movie, and Junpei was annoyed all the time.

Then suddenly Mahito appeared and touched the heads of all three of them, causing them to die by “Idle transfiguration“.

 

Because Junpei was able to see the curse, he saw all of Mahito’s actions.

Normally, he would not approach a person who can do such a deed, but Junpei, who had a vengeance against delinquents at the bottom of his heart, pursued Mahito and calls out to him.

And he asked him, “Could I do what you did?“.

This is the beginning of the relationship between Masato and Junpei.

 

In his conversation with Mahito, he told Junpei about the origins of the cursed spirits, including Mahito himself, and even showed him the modified humans that he experimented with in “Idle transfiguration“.

However, Junpei is not distraught when he sees the miniaturized human being who was almost killed by Masato, because he “knows the ugliness of human beings” and “has no feelings about the death of others”.

During their interaction, Masato basically affirmed all of Junpei’s thoughts, and Junpei began to forgive him.

However, this would lead to his tragic death at the end of the story.

As part of his cursed energy control training, Yuji had been watching movies very much, so he was able to talk to Junpei Yoshino, a movie buff.

It was the first time for Junpei to be able to talk about movies since the film club, and the day he met Yuji, he felt at ease with him.

 

Then Junpei’s mother, Nagi Yoshino, saw them together and invited Yuji to dinner.

Yuji’s communication ability, which is rare for a sorcerer, has helped him to get to know Nagi, and within hours of meeting her, they’ve become a family affair.

In the 24th chapter of the 3rd volume of the manga, where there was a lot of commotion at Yoshino’s house, Nagi Yoshino woke up after Yuji left, and for some reason there was a Sukuna’s finger on the table.

Incidentally, this was set up by Geto(Kenjaku), and this Sukuna’s finger had a tag of Mahito’s cursed energy on it.

By having this finger collected by technical college, it became a detector, and during the goodwill meeting, Mahito followed Sukuna’s finger to break into the special-grade cursed tools vault ‘cursed warehouse’, and took out Sukuna’s finger and ‘Kusozu cursed womb‘.

To Kenjaku, it didn’t matter if Nagi Yoshino survived or died, but to Mahito, Nagi Yoshino’s death was a prelude to make Jumpei and Yuji fight, and it was a tactics with many layers of intentions.

Junpei used “Moon Dregs” technique to poison Ito’s left arm, and just as he’s about to finish him off, Yuji rushed to the scene.

In the 26th chpater of the 4th volume of the manga, the battle between Junpei Yoshino and Yuji Itadori began, but Yuji was no match for Junpei, who has no experience in battle.

Furthermore, his poison was ineffective to Yuji and his physical abilities is beyond the human.

Then Yuji convinced Junpei to stop his vengeance and suggested that he come to the technical college.

 

But then Mahito appeared. At this point, Yuji did not know who Masato is, and he was caught off guard by his big arms.

When he was caught, Yuji shouted to Junpei to run away, but Junpei was so trusting of Mahito that he delayed his decision for a few seconds.

For Junpei, this was a fatal delay.

What’s the reason for Junpei Yoshino’s death?

In the 27th chapter of the 4th volume of the manga, Junpei Yoshino is transformed into a modified human in front of Yuji, who was restrained by Mahito’s arms.

And then Junpei, who had become a modified human, lost his ego and attacked Yuji.

He asked Sukuna to cure Junpei with his reversal technique, but Sukuna only laughed at the misery of his helplessness, and did not help him.

 

In the first place, once you’ve been transformed into a human being by ‘Idle transfiguration’, even the reversal technique is impossible to cure, so even with Sukuna’s ability, it seems that he couldn’t save Junpei Yoshino.

 

Then, just before his death, Junpei said to Yuji,

Despair: “Why did I get myself into this mess?”

The most likely theory is that it was meant to express “the despair of Junpei Yoshino“.

Firstly, Junpei’s mother, Nagi Yoshino, was suddenly killed by a cursed spirit, and he could not accept her death, so he covered her body with ice packs.

At first glance, this may not seem like the most appropriate thing to do, but the sudden death of his mother was very difficult for Junpei to accept.

Then he was invited to enter a technical college by his new best friend, Yuji Itadori, but his path was cut short when he was transformed into a modified human.

When a person is changed into a modified human by Mahito, he basically loses his ego and will, and starts to call out one word after another.

The modified humans who have appeared so far have also called out words such as “Let’s play.”, “Help me.”, and “Kill me.”, so it is possible that Junpei Yoshino was just saying words while lacking an ego.
