Jujutsu Kaisen Junpei Junpei Yoshino

This article explains why Junpei Yoshino appears in the opening of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime, the changes in the OP paintings, and the tears of Yuji Itadori in episode 13.

The background painting in the opening of Jujutsu Kaisen anime is of high quality, but it is also elaborate, changing gradually as the story progresses.

In the end of the opening movie, there are many characters related to technical college, but the only one who is not related is Jumpei Yoshino.

First of all, we will explain the reason why Jumpei Yoshino appears in the opening movie and the description of Yuji Itadori’s tears.

[Jujutsu Kaisen] Why Junpei is always in the flower viewing scene in the OP of the anime?

[Jujutsu Kaisen] Why Junpei is always in the flower viewing scene in the OP of the anime?(C)Gege Akutami/Shueisha/MAPPA

At the end of the OP movie of Jujutsu Kaisen, there is a flower viewing scene, in which Jumpei Yoshino participates from the beginning.

Junpei Yoshino is not a person from the technical college and has nothing to do with the college.

Also, Junpei is killed by Mahito, so this scene can no longer take place.

Let’s think about this intention.

As we will see later, the number of people in this scene increases and eventually there are 13 people

So, when you first watch the anime, you might think

In the OP of episode 13, will Junpei Yoshino disappear?

But in the end, he was still there in the scene in the episode 13 OP movie.

There are three possible reasons why Jumpei Yoshino continued to be in the OP of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime.

Is it at least a “what if” route to rescue the too painful reality?

Is it at least a (C)Gege Akutami/Shueisha

In fact, the picture of Jumpei Yoshino in the group of the college members can be found in the door picture of the 27th chapter of the 4th volume of the manga.

The subtitle of chapter 27 is “If“, and this picture shows what would happen if Jumpei Yoshino were to accept the invitation of Yuji and join the technical college.

If we look back at Jumpei Yoshino’s circumstances, we can see that

  • He was bullied at school and never went to school.
  • The right side of his face is scarred by a burn because of bully.
  • His mother, Nagi Yoshino, was murdered.
  • He was killed by Mahito.

He is in a tremendously hard life, and there is really no relief until he is killed by Masato.

So, maybe Jumpei Yoshino was included in the movie in the sense of “at least have a happy composition in the OP movie“.

To make the death scene of Junpei Yoshino in the 12th episode more memorable?

To make the death scene of Junpei Yoshino in the 12th episode more memorable?(C)Gege Akutami/Shueisha/MAPPA

I don’t want to think about this too much, but it could be that the intention of the OP is to foreshadow that Jumpei Yoshino is going to be one of the technical college members, so that it will give a stronger impression of the anime’s development.

For example, in the 12th episode of the anime, there is a shocking scene where Jumpei Yoshino is transformed into a modified human by Mahito, and if you haven’t read the original story, you will be shocked by this development after seeing that OP all the way to the 12th episode.

Perhaps the reason for this was to give a stronger impression of the harsh world of Jujutsu Kaisen.

A foreshadowing of “non-existent memories”?

There is a rumour that Yuji Itadori has a mysterious ability in the Jujutsu Kaisen, and one of the reasons for this is the description of “non-existent memory“.

This occurs in Aoi Todo’s brain in chapter 35 of volume 5 of the manga, and also in Choso’s brain in chapter 106 of volume 12 of the manga.

The presence of Junpei Yoshino among the members of the technical college in the anime OP may be some kind of foreshadowing of the “non-existent memory”.

There is another change in the anime OP movie involving Junpei Yoshino, the scene in the train at the end of the OP has changed.

Up to the 12th episode of the anime, all the pictures are of the same Yuji Itadori, but only in the 13th episode of the anime does he shed tears.

Because Junpei Yoshino died in episode 12, in the OP movie of the following episode 13, Yuji is crying.

It shows the attention to detail of the animators.

[Jujutsu Kaisen] Other changes in the OP of the anime!

So far we’ve talked about why Jumpei Yoshino is in the scene of the OP movie, and why Yuji Itadori is crying only in the OP movie of episode 13.

This is actually not the only change in the OP of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime.

This section shows the OPs that have changed as the story has progressed.

Changes in the OP: Gojo takes off his blindfold.

Up until episode 8 of the anime, Satoru Gojo only put his hand on the blindfold, but from episode 9 onwards, he takes it off and shows his eyes.

Gojo usually wears a blindfold, but when he is fighting a strong enemy or activating his domain expansion “Unlimited Void“, he removes his blindfold.

Gojo ‘s eyes are a special kind of eyes called “Six eyes“, which allow him to see through his opponent’s techniques at first sight, and even control cursed energy on an atomic level.

It’s powerful and useful, but it’s also very hard to use all the time, so he usually wears a blindfold.

In the anime, his face was revealed in episode 7 when he activated “Unlimited Void” in the battle of Jogo, and in the OP, his eyes were revealed in episode 9.

Changes in the OP: The number of characters are gradually increasing.

The anime scene of OP with Jumpei Yoshino in attendance, actually has more members participating as the story progresses.

Let’s take a closer look at how it changes over the course of the anime.

Episodes 1 – 2: Yuji Itadori, Jumpei Yoshino, Megumi Fushiguro, Satoru Gojo

Episodes 1 - 2: Yuji Itadori, Jumpei Yoshino, Megumi Fushiguro, Satoru Gojo(C)Gege Akutami/Shueisha/MAPPA

In the beginning of the anime (episodes 1 to 2), the four of them are having a cherry blossom viewing party.

  • Yuji Itadori
  • Junpei Yoshino
  • Megumi Fushiguro
  • Satoru Gojo

The way they sit on the seat is strange for four people, and the amount of food on the table is unnatural, so it looks like the picture will increase in the future.

Episodes 3 to 5: (additional) Nobara Kugisaki, Masamichi Yaga

Episodes 3 to 5: (additional) Nobara Kugisaki, Masamichi Yaga(C)Gege Akutami/Shueisha/MAPPA

In the third to fifth episodes of the anime, Nobara Kugisaki and Masamichi Yaga have been added.

Even with this, it looks still few people due to the condition of the seats. In particular, the space on the left side is still empty.

Episodes 6 to 8: (Additional) Panda, Maki Zen’in, Toge Inumaki, Kiyotaka Ijichi, Shoko Ieri

Episodes 6 to 8: (Additional) Panda, Maki Zen'in, Toge Inumaki, Kiyotaka Ijichi, Shoko Ieri(C)Gege Akutami/Shueisha/MAPPA

In episodes 6 to 8, the number of people has increased significantly, so the members have been added as follows.

  • Panda
  • Maki Zen’in
  • Toge Inumaki
  • Kiyotaka Ijichi
  • Shoko Ieiri

The number of people has increased by five at once, so it has become much more lively.

Also, in a small detail, Nobara Kugisaki has been moved to the left and is now talking to Maki.

Episodes 8 to 13: (Additional) Kento Nanami, Aoi Todo

Episodes 8 to 13: (Additional) Kento Nanami, Aoi Todo(C)Gege Akutami/Shueisha/MAPPA

We thought there would be no more, but in episodes 8 to 13, Kento Nanami and Aoi Todo were added, bringing the total to 13.

Aoi Todo, the only member of the Kyoto school, also joined in, and the sheet was completely filled up.

As I said in the beginning, Junpei Yoshino stayed in this OP picture from the beginning to the end.

In the main story, he dies in a way that doesn’t save him at all, so it’s a bit of a relief to have a scene like this in the OP at least.

Conclusion of “[Jujutsu Kaisen] Junpei is in the anime OP! A summary of the changes, including the tears of Yuji!”

In this article we have explained why Jumpei Yoshino appears in the opening of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime, the changes in the OP painting, and the tears of Yuji Itadori in episode 13.

The animation of Jujutsu Kaisen is very high quality and the OP movie is very beautiful.

In addition to that, I feel that the producers are very particular about the fact that they don’t just use the same OP movie over and over again, but they change it as the story progresses and make it seem like foreshadowing.
